Hornets stuff McLaurin

The host Loyd Star Hornets pounded the McLaurin Tigers 8-1 in aDivision 6-2A makeup baseball game Thursday. Loyd Star improves to8-8 overall and remain undefeated at 4-0 in division play.
Loyd Star broke a 1-all tie with McLaurin in the bottom of thethird inning with four runs for a 5-1 lead. The Hornets added threemore runs for insurance and secured the win.
“Defensively, we played well,” said Loyd Star head coach SydneyWheatley. “Our pitchers did a real good job. We put the ball inplay. We made contact.”
Patrick Holcomb (2-2) posted the win with 1 run allowed on 2hits, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Working the fourth and fifth inningswas Kyle James with 5 strikeouts, 2 walks and 1 hit allowed.Finishing the game was Tyler Williford with 3 strikeouts, 4 walksand 1 hit allowed.
Absorbing the loss was Jimmy Lee Wilson with 8 runs allowed on 6hits, 2 strikeouts and 4 walks. Working the final two innings wasJeff Salters.
In the junior varsity game, Loyd Star and McLaurin finished tied9-9.
Loyd Star visits Wesson tonight for a key division doubleheader.The JV begins play at 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at6:30.
