Family home gutted by fire

An East Lincoln family’s home was gutted Saturday afternoonduring a house fire at their residence on East Lincoln Dr.

The fire at Glenn and Michelle Rutland’s home at 304 EastLincoln Dr. was reported at 5:04 p.m. The Rutlands were leasing thehouse, which was owned by Nancy Wooten.

Michelle Rutland said family members were out back burning trashaway from the home when one of the children said the house was onfire.

“It started in the bedroom or the bathroom,” said Rutland, whoran to the home to call 911. “It was engulfed on that side of thehouse by the time we got there.”

Neither the Rutlands nor children Tiffany Laird, 11; LaurenLaird, 9; and Austin Rutland, 6, were injured.

Rutland said the home was insured by the owner but the contentswere not. She said the family had recently put furniture in thehome.

East Lincoln, Hog Chain, Heuck’s Retreat and Zetus volunteerfire departments responded to the fire. It was under control byshortly before 6 p.m., although firefighters continued to spraywater on some areas as a precaution.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
