Banquet honors BHS basketball

Brookhaven freshman and varsity basketball team members werehonored Monday night with a banquet dinner at Western Sizzlin. Theevent was sponsored by the BHS Hardwood Booster Club.

Coaches Billy Holmes and Terri Hall recognized the Lady Pantherslast night and presented them with awards. The Hardwood Clubfurnished plaques for the five seniors: Brianna Patton, ChiquitaRancifer, Latoria Kerr, Kristin McCray and Anna Autman.

“We had five very strong seniors,” said Coach Holmes. “We wishthem a lot of luck in the future.”

There were 16 girls on the varsity squad. “Everyone had a roleto play,” said Holmes. “Our Red (reserves) team did a lot for ourprogram. That made our starters work hard in practice.”

The Lady Panthers posted a 22-12 record and advanced to theClass 4A state playoffs. Underclassmen who lettered were AshleyLeggett, Blanche Wilson, Portia Dickey and Ashley Sykes.

BHS boys coach Ronald Hines recognized his players. Seven of hiseight lettermen are seniors.

Geniero Richardson was honored by permanent team captain.Gatorade awards went to Jerome Avery, Rookie of the Year; RodneyDaniels, Will to Win; and Jasper Hall, Player of the Year.

Hall accounted for 7 double-doubles this season as the Panthersposted a 14-16 record. He and Daniels were named to The DAILYLEADER’s All-Lincoln County Boys Team. Hall also was anAll-Division 6-4A Team selection.

Hall, Daniels, Richardson, Philip Tobias, Micah Tanner, JermaineCulver, James Dickey and manager Richard Calcote are seniors.Michael Thrasher was the only junior receiving a letterman’saward.

Freshman Gatorade awards went to Nathan Brown, Will to Win;Terrance Perkins, Rookie of Year; and Michael Washington, Player ofthe Year.

Hardwood Club president Michael Tanner delivered the invocation.He also thanked the players and club members for their hard workthis season.
