Storm causes some damage in county

Several trees fell and a chicken house was damaged during heavyrains that passed through the area Monday evening, said LincolnCounty Civil Defense Director Clifford Galey.

Galey said some trees were downed in District Four and four orfive trees fell in District One Monday. One large tree fell andblocked Chicken Farm Road.

“We went to help the county get it out this morning,” Galey saidTuesday.

Galey said most of the roof of one chicken house on the road wasblown off during the storm.

Heuck’s Retreat Volunteer Fire Department responded to a barnfire on Turpin Road Monday night. The fire was blamed on thestorm.

“There was no other reason for the fire starting,” said Galey,adding that farm equipment inside was destroyed.

Galey said the county was under a severe thunderstorm warningfrom 5:20 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

“We were lucky we didn’t get any worse than we got,” Galeysaid.
