Ten juveniles facing charges

Ten juveniles have been charged in connection with two downtownburglaries early Friday morning and another one last month, saidBrookhaven Assistant Police Chief Nolan Jones.

The burglaries occurred last night at The Locker Room on WestCherokee Street and at Brookhaven Elementary School. The thirdburglary involved a June 19 incident at Brookhaven Cycle Shop,Jones said.

At 2:34 a.m. Friday, Jones said the police department received areport of suspicious subjects in the Whitworth Avenue area. At 3:45a.m., a broken window was reported at The Locker Room.

“At this time, nothing has been reported missing there,” Jonessaid.

While patrolling, officers discovered a snack storage area atthe elementary school had been burglarized. He said snacks anddrinks were taken in that incident.

An investigation lead to the arrests of 10 juveniles, ranging inage from 10 to 15 years old, Jones said. Investigators were able toconnect last night’s activity to the June 19 cycle shop incident,in which some merchandise was taken from a store window.

Jones said four juveniles were charged with burglary and twowith possession of stolen property related to the cycle shopincident.

Three were charged in The Locker Room burglary and two withburglary in the BES incident. Jones said one juvenile was chargedwith burglary in both The Locker Room and cycle shop incidents.

Jones commended officers and investigators on the midnightshift, saying the arrests were the result of a “job well done.” Hewas also thankful for alert members of the public.

“We appreciate citizens who call in to report suspiciousactivity,” Jones said. “That’s a big help.”
