Nationals face Summit again in AAA tournament

SUMMIT — The Summit All-Stars used a balanced offensive anddefensive attack to author a 9-2 win over the Brookhaven Nationalsin Game 2 of the best-of-three series for the Dixie Youth BaseballDistrict 6 AAA championship for 10-year olds. The series is even at1-1,

By virtue of a coin-flip, a third and decisive game will betoday in Summit at 6 p.m. with the Nationals being designated asthe home team.

Summit, coached by Kenneth Wallace, jumped out to a quick 9-0 inthe first 2 innings. Garrett paced the early barrage with 2 singlesand 2 runs scored. Also crossing home plate were Justin Mercier,Brandon Terrell, Joseph Clark, Yohance Bailey, Cory Killingsworth,Josh Cardenas, Bailey Hodge and Cody McCullough.

Clark picked up the win for Summit. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits,walked 5 and struck out 9 in 6 innings on the mound.

“They (Summit) played well on both sides of the ball,” saidNationals head coach Larry Killingsworth. “We have to hit the ballin the gaps.”

The Nationals got on the scoreboard in the sixth. Drew Jonesdoubled. Jacob Philipp walked. Both runners advanced to third andsecond respectively on passed balls. Brock Smith singled to scoreJones. Jeremy Laird reached on a fielder’s choice and moved tosecond on a passed ball that allowed Philipp to score.

Corey Funk the loss for the Nationals. Will Lucas tossed thefinal 2 innings.

Brookhaven got singles from Jones and Will Hickman.

“Summit has a good team,” added Killingsworth. “We have to beready for tomorrow (today).”
