Officials continue search for bank robbery suspect

WESSON — Local and federal authorities are continuing to lookfor the suspect in a Friday afternoon robbery of Copiah Bank onHighway 51.

“We’re following up on some leads right now,” said Wesson PoliceChief Steve Carlisle Saturday evening. “Hopefully, we’ll come upwith something soon.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Copiah CountySheriff’s Department are also participating in theinvestigation.

The bank robbery happened around 12:45 p.m. Friday, said SheriffHarold Jones.

Jones said a black male, wearing a plaid shirt, came into thebank, displayed a revolver and demanded money from a teller. Therobber then left with an undisclosed amount of money.

The sheriff said the suspect may have fled in a gold orcream-colored Ford pick up truck with damage on its passenger side.Its direction of travel was not known.

The bank robbery in Wesson followed an earlier robbery in Terryaround 10:45 a.m. Carlisle said Saturday the two robberies were notbelieved to be connected.
