SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A hit and run accident Friday night hasplaced a Brookhaven legislator’s son’s family in the hospital, withthe son’s wife in critical condition and one child in seriouscondition.

According to Rep. Jim Barnett, who was in Sioux Falls buttraveling separately from his son Mark, Dana Barnett was airliftedto the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., following the accident thathappened near the Minnesota state line. She is listed in criticalcondition with abdominal injuries and a broken pelvis.

Mark and Dana Barnett’s son Steven, who sustained abdominalinjuries in the accident, is listed in serious condition in a SiouxFalls hospital. Mark Barnett and his other two sons were beingtreated for lacerations.

The Mark Barnett family was traveling in a motor home on I-90just inside the Minnesota state line late Friday night when it washit by an individual suspected on driving under the influence ofalcohol.

The motor home left the road and flipped. The driver left thescene of the accident and was later arrested at a road block.

The Barnett family had been attending a family reunion nearMount Rushmore and was returning home when the accident occurredaround 10:30 Friday night.
