WESSON — Prospective football players began reporting toCopiah-Lincoln Community College today as new head coach GlennDavis launched preseason practice. A noon check-in time will befollowed by physical examinations this afternoon.

Davis said he expected as many as 80 players to report today.”We are excited about the number of players wanting to be part ofour program.”

The players will participate in a running speed test after the 6p.m. evening meal. Team meetings will begin at 7 p.m.
supper and 7 p.m. team meeting.

This weekend’s practice schedule finds the Wolfpack startingpractice at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Players willpractice the first three days in shorts and T-shirts. br>
Players will wear full equipment the remaining days of preseasonpractice. According to NJCAA rules, Aug. 11 and 13 have beendesignated as two-a-day practice days, starting at 8 a.m. and 4p.m.

“We have a lot of guys who are interested in the program andthey want to make the team,” said Davis. “A lot of people thinkthey can make the team.”

The Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges limitsrosters to 55 players. Each school is allowed 10 more players on apractice team.

Defensive backfield coach Calvin Green is the only holdover fromthe previous coaching staff. Newcomers are defensive coordinatorBrett Shufelt, quarterback/running back coach Shelton Gandy andvolunteer coaches Rob Channell (receivers) and Chris Tolbert(defensive line).

Co-Lin makes its 2004 debut Sept. 2, at Holmes Community Collegein Goodman. The Wolves are at Northeast in Booneville on Sept. 9before returning home. They host defending state champion PearlRiver Sept. 16.
