Lady ‘Cats sweep Natchez

The host Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats kicked off the 2004 slowpitchsoftball Friday night winning a doubleheader from the Natchez LadyBulldogs.

Bogue Chitto held off Natchez 8-6 in the final game and crushedthe Lady Bulldogs 7-0 in the opener. The Lady Bobcats are under thedirection of first year head coaches Scott and Denise Leggett.

“This was a couple of good wins against a 5A school,” said ScottLeggett. “I’m proud of my girls. We worked hard for two weeks. Agreat defensive effort, but we need to hit the ball better. Theyall did a great job.”
Bogue Chitto 8, Natchez 6

In the finale, Latoya Braxton posted the win with 2strikeouts and 2 walks. Lesley Butler was the losing hurler with 1strikeout and 6 walks.

Bogue Chitto led Natchez 3-1 after the first inning and7-1 after three. The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Bobcats 5-1in the final three innings but remained two runs short of thetie.

Powering the Lady Bobcats at the plate were CandaceBraxton and Latoya Braxton with a pair of singles apiece. Doublingwas Meleah Brown. Chelsey Miller, Candace Avants and Brynna Wallacesingled.

Natchez got two singles from Kacey Chambling, TraciDavis and Porshe Singleton. Hitting safely were Sarah Weaver,Wennifer Noble, Chelsea Hall, Brittany Barns and LesleyButler.

Natchez outhit Bogue Chitto 11-8. The Lady Bobcatscommitted 6 errors to the Lady Bulldogs’ 4.

The first game saw both teams go scoreless for threeinnings. Bogue Chitto posted 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth and4 runs in the fifth to secure the win.

Bogue Chitto outhit Natchez 9-3 at the plate. Each teamcommitted an error.

At the plate, Haley Roberts directed Bogue Chitto with atriple and a single. Avants and Wallace collected 2 singles apiece.Tripling was Chelsey Miller. Dori Hall and Latoya Braxton hitsafely.

Weaver singled twice for Natchez. Hallsingled.

Bogue Chitto (2-0) entertains Class 4A McComb Tuesdaynight for two games. The junior varsity begins at 5 p.m. followedby varsity at 6.
