Lady ‘Cats roar past McComb

BOGUE CHITTO — All it took was three innings for the BogueChitto Lady Bobcats to put away the McComb Lady Tigers 20-2 ingirls slowpitch softball action Tuesday night on Stan LongField.

Bogue Chitto (3-0) hammered McComb 10-0 in the first two inningsfor a 20-0 lead. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Bobcats 2-0 inthe third to end the game.

“We hit the ball well and played good defense,” said BogueChitto coach Scott Leggett. “My girls played real well. We playNorth Pike Thursday. We must be ready to play them.”

Danielle Sasser was the winning pitcher with 2 strikeouts and 1walk. Tiffany Shackelton was the loser with no strikeouts and 9walks.

Powering the Lady Bobcats with a home run and a single wasCandace Braxton. Candace Avants and Kayla Smith ripped 2 singlesapiece. Singling were Chelsey Miller, Haley Roberts, Latoya Braxtonand Dori Hall.

Mandie Reid’s tripled paced the Lady Tigers in their seasonopener. Katelan Varnell doubled. Following with a single were MarlaWells and Jessica Stevenson.

“We did okay defensively,” said McComb coach Kevin Martin. “Westruggled on the mound. We must be consistent on the pitching. Wehave a lot of inexperience young girls who are trying tolearn.”

In junior varsity action, Jessie Miller directed Bogue Chittowith a triple and a single. Morgan Roberts smashed a triple.Hitting safely were Blaine Myers, Caitin Owens, Hannah Nichols andAmanda Owens.

The winner on the mound was Caitin Owens with 2 strikeouts and 4walks. Shackleton absorbed the loss with 2 strikeouts and 5walks.

Pacing McComb with a single were Shalethia Brister and HannahHart.

Bogue Chitto entertains North Pike Thursday for a doubleheader.The JV game begins at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6.
