Two all-terrain vehicles stolen in May have been recovered butno arrests have been made, the Lincoln County sheriff said.
Sheriff Wiley Calcote said the four-wheelers were stolen fromhomes on opposite sides of the county. One vehicle was stolen fromCallender Road and the other from Durr Case Road.
“We haven’t made any arrests yet,” he said. “We have some realgood suspects in both cases, and arrests are pending.”
The four-wheeler from Callender Road was stolen May 5 andrecovered Monday.
A questionable sale led to its recovery, Calcote said.
“It had been sold to an individual for a very small sum ofmoney. That individual has been very cooperative with theinvestigation,” the sheriff said, adding the buyer did not know theATV was stolen property.
A friend of the buyer’s was suspicious about the sale andnotified the sheriff’s office that he believed the vehicle had beenstolen, Calcote said.
A check on the vehicle number confirmed the theft and theidentity of the original owner, the sheriff said. The vehicle hasnot been returned pending owner notification.
The vehicle stolen from the home on Durr Case Road wasdiscovered in woods just off Lucky Lane, Calcote said. The ownerhas reclaimed it.
“Both of them had been damaged,” he said. “The one stolen fromDurr Case Road was in pretty bad shape.”
Calcote urged anyone with information about the thefts tocontact his office. Any information received will remainconfidential.
