BHS girls wallop Wesson

WESSON — The Brookhaven Lady Panthers pounded out 13 hits enroute to a 9-3 Tuesday night slowpitch softball win over the WessonLady Cobras.

Brookhaven posted an 11-1 win over Wesson in the JV game.

Both teams are in action Thursday. Wesson travels to LawrenceCounty, beginning at 5 p.m. with the JV game. Brookhaven hostsNorth Pike at the Hansel King Sportsplex for a JV/varsitydoubleheader, starting at 6 p.m.

Brookhaven 9, Wesson 3

The Lady Panthers (5-2) wasted little time getting on thescoreboard in the top half of the first, garnering a 3-0 lead.Taylor Crane, Ashley Sykes and Allyson Wallace scored for LadyPanther head coach Lisa Covington. Sykes and Terri Hodges each hada RBI in the inning.

Wesson (1-6) tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the second.Stacey Lowery, Monica Garcia and Julie Berry all singled andscored. The Lady Panthers committed a crucial error that wouldallow Garcia and Barry to score.

Brookhaven’s defense would close the door on Wesson during thefinal 5 innings, including 4 frames where the Lady Cobras went down1-2-3.

“Our defense is improving,” said Covington. “We are starting tohit the ball a lot better.”

Crane and Sykes both scored in the third, while Kelly Vinson andKayla Prince plated individual runs in the fourth.

Vinson led the Brookhaven offensive with 3 singles and a runscored. Wallace tripled, singled twice and scored 2 runs. Cranesingled and scored twice. Brittany Smith singled twice and scored.Smith picked up the win for the Lady Panthers.

Wesson’s Berry and Bethany Dykes both had 2 singles. Berry, whowas the losing pitcher, scored a run.

In the JV game, Brookhaven got run support fromAmanda McIntyre (2), Katie Stewart (2), Brianna Ashmore (2), AshleyParks (2), Hannah Lowman, Jana Wallace, Caryanne Rake, CasiLangston and Karlee Martin. McIntyre singled and tripled. Langstonsingled twice. Ashmore picked up the win for the Lady Panthers.

Wesson got their lone run from Hayleigh Young. Casey Greer andLanzy McQuaye each singled. Brooke King suffered the loss for theLady Cobras.
