Lady Bobcats rally late to beat Cathedral

BOGUE CHITTO — Candice Braxton belted a home run and a singleto power the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats to a 7-4 comeback win overthe Natchez Cathedral Green Wave Thursday night in girls slowpitchsoftball action.
Bogue Chitto (7-1, 1-0) led 3-0 after two innings. Cathedralscored one run in the top of the third and three in the fifth totake a 4-3 lead going in to the sixth inning. The Lady Bobcatsrallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 7-4 leadand held off the Lady Greenies for the win.
“This was out worst outing this year,” said Bogue Chitto girlshead coach Scott Leggett. “The girls just seemed to be out offocus. We did not hit well and our defense slacked a little. It wasgood to get our first district win, but we chose to do it the hardway. We have to kick it up a notch.”
Danielle Sasser was the winning pitcher with three strikeoutsand one walk. Brandi McGraw absorbed the loss with one strikeoutand no walks.
Candace Braxton powered the Lady Bobcats at the plate with ahome run and single. Doubling was Haley Roberts. Chelsey Miller,Meleah Brown, Devon Welch, Dori Hall, Kayla Smith and Sassersingled.
Pacing Cathedral with a pair of singles each were KristinaBrumfield and Jennifer Benard. Jordan Chandler doubled. Hittingsafely were Emily Stevens, Caitlin Huffines and Kelin Kirkwood.
Bogue Chitto out hit Cathedral 9-8 and both teams committed fourerrors apiece.

In the junior varsity game, Shaquille Burton smashed a home runand a single for the Lady Bobcats. Chassity Moak singled twice.Hitting safely were Kelli Howard, Blaine Myers, Caitlin Owen,Morgan Roberts and Laken Crosby. Owen got the win with fourstrikeouts and four walks.
“The JV did a great job,” added Leggett. “They played gooddefense and hit the ball better.”
Singling for Cathedral were Betsy Daggett, Megan Anderson andBlair Brooks. Jennie Allen took the loss, striking out three andwalking four.
Bogue Chitto plays at noon Saturday in the Franklin CountyTournament. The Lady Bobcats face the winner of the morning gamebetween Natchez High and McComb.
