Lawrence Co. slugs T’town

MONTICELLO — Emily Smith slugged two home runs and the LawrenceCounty Lady Cougars smashed Tylertown’s Lady Chiefs 18-8 Monday inslowpitch softball action. Smith and Jessica Johnson both had threehits in the victory.
Kaila Givens (6-2) pitched the victory. Virginia Thomas absorbedthe loss.
The Lady Cougars exploded for 13 first-inning runs and led 17-3after 2 frames.
At the plate, Soni Smith tripled and doubled for LCHS. Two hitswere provided by Cori Walker and Ryane Garrett. Lorrin Baker,Rhianna Garrett, Kenyachta Myers, Ellie Fairburn and Maygan McCloudsingled.
Tylertown got a home run from Luby James. Cornelia Thorntontripled. Two hits were collected by Erin Willoughby, JasmineClements and James.
In the JV game, Lawrence County won 16-2.
The Lady Cougars resume play Thursday, hosting South Pike fordivision action. The JV game starts at 6 p.m., followed by thevarsity at 7.
