Trustee won’t seek re-election

Brenda Warren, District Five school board trustee, saidWednesday she will not seek re-election.

“I just feel like it’s time for me to quit,” she said. “Ienjoyed my time on the board, and I wish my successor well.”

Warren is completing her third term as a member of the schoolboard.

Warren’s decision leaves Michael Posey as the sole qualifier forthe office unless someone returns qualifying paperwork by 5 p.m.Friday. That is the deadline to qualify for all electedoffices.

The District Five position is the only school board office openfor election when voters go to the polls Nov. 2.

The only other county races on the general election ballot arefor the five election commissioner offices.

Election commissioner incumbents all qualified on the openingday of the process. Incumbents include John Hightower, DistrictOne; Mike Byrne, District Two; Floy McClellan, District Three;Charles Smith, District Four; and Lee Warren, District Five.

Lee Warren is the only incumbent to be challenged. Robert Martinhas qualified to run against him.
