Services for Ellen Felice Johnson “Mimi” Kane of Ridgefield,Conn., are Sept. 9 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Brookhaven.Jowdy Kane Funeral Home in Danbury, Conn., is in charge ofarrangements.

Mrs. Kane, 102, died Aug. 28, 2004, at her residence. She wasborn in Brookhaven on March 16, 1902, to Dr. J.H. Johnson andKatherine McGrath Johnson.

Mrs. Kane traveled to New York, N.Y., where she became thecompanion for a widowed family friend. She enjoyed beingchauffeured to and from the cultural offerings of Broadway andCarnegie Hall. While there, she met and married a young journalist,Sherwin Kane. Mrs. Kane enjoyed equity investing, playing piano,entertaining friends, and car traveling around the country with herhusband and visiting a North Carolina farm that is now a NationalHistorical Site on Mrs. Kane’s side of the family.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband.

Survivors are her two sons, Sherwin and Stephen Kane, both ofAshland, Ore.; her five grandchildren; her five greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, including PhyllisSpearman and Joan Peyton of Brookhaven, and Jere Clark ofHattiesburg.
