Lady Panthers bash McComb

McCOMB — Ashley Sykes blasted a grand slam home run, a doubleand a single Tuesday night to lead the Brookhaven Lady Panthers toa 22-0 division win over the McComb Lady Tigers in slowpitchsoftball action. Lisa Covington coaches Brookhaven.

Brittany Smith (14-2, 4-0) was the winning pitcher. TiffanyShacklefoot absorbed the loss.

Adding support to the Brookhaven win with two home runs, adouble and a single was Allyson Wallace. Terri Hodges doubled andsingled twice. Collecting four singles was Brittany Smith.

The Lady Panthers got two singles from Christi Martin, KaylaPrince, Lauren Smith, Katie Smith and Taylor Crane.

For McComb, Carla Hart singled twice. Katelan Varnell hitsafely.

Junior varsity

The Lady Panthers knocked off the Lady Tigers 9-5. BrianneAshmore (5-0-1) got the win on the mound. Mandie Reid took theloss.

Brookhaven was led at the plate by Ashmore’s two singles.Tripling was Ashley Parks. Hannah Lowman, Katie Stewart, AmandaMcIntyre and Sabrina DeLaughter singled.

Brookhaven is tentatively scheduled to travel to WingfieldThursday, depending on Hurricane Ivan. Game time is 5 p.m.

Saturday, the Lady Panthers play in the North Pike Tournament.Brookhaven meets West Lincoln at 10:15 a.m., Bogue Chitto at 12:45p.m. and North Pike at 2:30.
