Lady Panthers take first place at North Pike

SUMMIT — The Brookhaven Lady Panthers captured the North PikeInvitational slowpitch softball tournament, going undefeated. Theyedged West Lincoln 7-6, whipped Bogue Chitto 12-1 and North Pike5-3 on a sun-kissed day.
“We had a very good day hitting the ball,” said Brookhaven coachLisa Covington. “We were solid on defense, too.”
Brookhaven 7, West Lincoln 6
Brookhaven scored the winning run in the sixth inning as AshleySykes raced home. Brittany Smith was the winning pitcher and theloser was Brittani Phillips absorbed the loss.
The Lady Panthers were led by catcher Christi Martin who homeredand singled. Allyson Wallace also homered.
West Lincoln got a homer from Ashley Palomarez and 3 singlesfrom right-center fielder Heather Huff . Britnee Smith, AliciaKennedy, Carrie Fauver and Lauren Smith singled twice.
Brookhaven 12, Bogue Chitto 1
The Lady Panthers beat Bogue Chitto in 6 innings. Brittany Smithpitched the win and LaToya Braxton absorbed the loss.
Leading Brookhaven was Wallace who collected a double and 3singles. Kayla Prince tripled and singled. Sykes doubled twice andsingled. Taylor Crane and Lauren Smith both had 3 hits. Smith andTerri Hodges singled twice.
Brookhaven 5, North Pike 3
Brookhaven rallied for 4 runs in the top of the seventh to beatNorth Pike and complete the tournament undefeated.
The Lady Panthers were directed by Crane with 3 singles. Martin,Lauren Smith and Brittany Smith singled twice.
Leonna Ballard singled twice for North Pike. Jenna Dickerson wasthe losing pitcher.
Brookhaven (18-2) resumes play Saturday, hosting West Lincolnfor a twinbill, starting at 11 a.m.
