Fleeing suspect gets away in high-speed chase

A suspect eluded deputies during a high-speed chase throughLincoln and Copiah counties Wednesday night.

Lincoln County Sheriff Wiley Calcote said the chase began justoutside Brookhaven on Old Wesson Road when a deputy pulled onto theroad behind the suspect.

“The suspect recognized the car for what it was and fled beforethe deputy even turned on his blue lights,” Calcote said.

The chase, at speeds more than 100 mph, lasted about 15 minutes.As the chase crossed the county line, a Copiah County deputy and aWesson Police Department officer joined in.

The suspect was able to elude the officers in Wesson, Calcotesaid.

The sheriff said the agencies involved knew the identity of thesuspect. He would not identify him, citing the ongoinginvestigation.

The suspect fled, Calcote said, because he was wanted on awarrant. The sheriff did not reveal the nature of the warrant.
