N. Pike ambushes Brook

SUMMIT — In a Monday night meeting of division slowpitchsoftball champions, the North Pike Lady Jaguars ambushedBrookhaven’s Lady Panthers 6-5. Jenna Dickerson pitched the victoryand Brittany Smith absorbed the loss.
North Pike, the Division 7-3A champion, and Brookhaven, theDivision 6-4A champion, will host opening round state playoff gamesThursday. Both will be best-of-three series.
The Lady Jaguars host Purvis, starting at 5 p.m.
“This was a big win for us,” said North Pike coach SonyaWallace. “I’m extremely proud of my girls for the way they playedtonight. We never gave up after trailing most of the game.”
A 2-out, bases-loaded walk to Casey Dickerson plated the winningrun. Jennifer Coney had led off the sixth-inning rally with adouble and later scored the tying run on a grounder by SamanthaRoberts.
“We had lost twice to Brookhaven earlier in the season and Iknew we would have to play hard to win.”
At the plate, Brookhaven finished with 14 hits. Leading CoachLisa Covington’s Lady Panthers was Allyson Wallace with a doubleand 2 singles. Ashley Sykes had 3 singles. Taylor Crane and Smithsingled twice.
Also hitting safely for Brookhaven were Terri Hodges, KaylaPrince, Kelly Vinson, Lauren Smith and Jana Wallace.
North Pike (15-12) got 2 singles from Leonna Ballard andDickerson. Jennifer Coney doubled. Jessie Turner, Kaitlyn Perry,Casey Dickerson and Emily Vanlandingham singled.
In the JV game, Brookhaven whipped North Pike17-5. Brianna Ashmore (9-1-1) pitched the win. Tori Gaskin absorbedthe loss.
At the plate, Brookhaven was powered by Katie Stewart whotripled. Hannah Lowman and Jana Wallace singled twice. AmandaMcIntyre, Kelsey Freeman, Sabrina DeLaughter and Cary Anne Rakesingled.,
Two singles by Gaskin led the Lady Jaguars. Kayla Stockton,Samantha Roberts and Tyeshia Holmes singled.
