BHS girls elude D’Iberville

D’IBERVILLE — The Brookhaven Lady Panthers were stretched tothe limit Tuesday night but they survived a marathon tripleheaderwith D’Iberville’s Lady Warriors. Brookhaven edged D’Iberville 10-9in the third game and advanced to the Class 4A South Statesemifinals which are set for Saturday at the Hansel KingSportsplex.

The Lady Panthers won Tuesday’s opener 5-4 in eight innings andlost the second game to D’Iberville 9-5 in 10 innings. The LadyWarriors finished the season with a 19-10 record.

Brookhaven (26-4) hosts Petal Saturday for a best-of-threeseries. Petal eliminated Lawrence County Tuesday. Lawrence Countywas the defending South State champion.

“I’m proud our girls didn’t give up,” said Brookhaven head coachLisa Covington. “We battled in each game. D’Iberville was realscrappy and they had some great outfielders.”

The third game didn’t conclude until 9 p.m.

Brittany Smith (26-4) was the winning pitcher in the series.Amanda Jarrett (19-10) absorbed the loss.

Brookhaven 10, D’Iberville 9

In the top of the seventh inning, Brookhaven’s Kayla Princesingled to score Allyson Wallace for the go-ahead and eventualgame-winning run. D’Iberville tied the game at 9-all in thesixth.

Powering Brookhaven with a pair of doubles and a pair of singleswas Wallace. Ashley Sykes and Prince singled three times. Drillingtwo singles each were Christi Martin and Brittany Smith. TaylorCrane and Kelly Vinson singled.

D’Iberville was led by Amy Maddox who hit three singles.Collecting a pair of singles were Holly Lawrence, Tiffany Brosh,Jarrett, Alyson Taylor and Kimi Wagner. Hitting safely were CaitlinGilmore and Ashley Allen.

The Lady Panthers outhit the Lady Warriors 16-15. D’Ibervillemade two errors.

D’Iberville 9, Brookhaven 5

In the second game, D’Iberville pulled out the win in the 10thinning.

Lauren Smith singled four times to spark Brookhaven. Princedoubled and singled twice. Smashing two singles each were BrittanySmith, Sykes, Martin and Terri Hodges. Wallace, Crane and Vinsonhit safely.

Directing the D’Iberville with four singles was Lawrence. AmberDerounes, Jordan Adams and Jarrett belted three singles apiece.Brosh, Gilmore, Allen, Taylor, Wagner and Maddox collected twosingles.

At the plate, the Lady Warriors collected 25 hits while the LadyPanthers finished with 18. D’Iberville had one error.

Brookhaven 5, D’Iberville 4

First-game action saw Brookhaven score the go-ahead run in theeighth inning. The Lady Panthers recorded 15 hits and committedthree errors. The Lady Warriors made two errors and had 10hits.

Prince guided Brookhaven at the plate with a double and threesingles. Wallace ripped three singles. Drilling two singles eachwere Sykes and Hodges. Crane, Brittany Smith, Vinson and KatieSmith singled.

D’Iberville got three singles from Gilmore. Taylor and Maddoxsingled twice each. Wagner, Jarrett and Brosh hit safely.
