Auto wreck claims life of local man

A Brookhaven man died Sunday of injuries sustained in anautomobile crash Saturday night on Highway 51 about 3.5 miles northof Brookhaven, officials said.
Gerald McNulty, 41, of 350 Belmont Trail, was fatally injuredaround 9:30 p.m. Saturday when he apparently ran off the road inhis 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass and struck some trees, Lincoln CountyCoroner Clay McMorris said.
“The impact was to the driver’s side, striking a tree. Alcoholis a contributing factor in the crash,” said Sgt. Rod Crawford,public affairs officer for the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
A second Brookhaven man, James Johnson, 39, was seriouslyinjured in the crash, Crawford said.
Johnson was in the Intensive Care Unit at King’s DaughtersHospital Sunday, McMorris said.
McNulty was extricated from the car by the Jaws of Life andtransferred by ambulance to KDMC. He was later transferred byAirCare to University Medical Center, where he died at 12:47 p.m.Sunday, McMorris said.
