Tylertown swamps Hornets 108-56

SUMMIT — The Tylertown Chiefs knocked off the Loyd Star Hornets108-56 Tuesday night in the championship game of the North PikeTip-Off Tournament. Tylertown had 6 players in double figures.

In the consolation boys game, the Wesson Cobras clipped theNorth Pike Jaguars 56-50 in overtime.

“Tylertown has a good squad and they are hard to handle,” saidLoyd Star boys coach Gene (Moochie) Britt. “We were overpowered byTylertown.”

In the championship game, Tylertown jumped out to a 33-8 leadover Loyd Star in the first quarter. At halftime, the Chiefs ledthe Hornets 55-30.

“Loyd Star is a good team,” said Tylertown coach Cynthia Magee.”Hopefully, we can keep improving from out mistakes.”

Tylertown (2-0) was led by Revas Jackson with 19 points,followed by Travis Conerly with 18, D’Bundee Smith with 14, MarioBridges with 13, Semon Dillion with 11 and Myreon Smith with10.

Powering Loyd Star (1-1) with 19 points was Tyler Williford. RonJones netted 12 points.

Loyd Star visits Brookhaven Monday for 4 games. The junior highgirls begin play at 4 p.m.

Wesson 56, North Pike 50

In the consolation game, Wesson outscored North Pike 8-2 inovertime to secure the win. At the end of regulation, the teamswere deadlocked at 48 apiece.

The 1-1 Cobras, coached by Ron Kessler, were sparked by AdrienMerchant’s 13 points. Wade Williams fired in 12 points. Finishingwith nine points was Adrian King.

The 0-2 Jaguars, coached by Keith Russ, got 15 points fromLandon Morgan and nine points from Erik Robinson.

Wesson hosts Forrest County AHS Thursday for two varsity games,beginning at 6 p.m. with the girls followed by the boys. Juniorvarsity games with Dexter will be held at 4 and 5.
