Ruth Montgomery Abernathy
Services for Ruth Montgomery Abernathy of Hazlehurst are 1:30p.m. Friday, Dec. 10 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in UnionChurch with burial in the church cemetery. Community FuneralServices are in charge of arrangements.
Visitation begins today at 5 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Abernathy, 97, died Dec. 8, 2004, at Silver Cross NursingCenter. She was born in Ripley on Oct. 5, 1907, to Rock DavidMontgomery and May Chapman Montgomery.
She was retired.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, LesterAbernathy; a son, E.J. Anderson; a daughter, Doris Sumrall; andfour brothers.
Survivors are her daughters, Faye Coke of Hazlehurst, JeanFreeman of Hazlehurst, Ann Coleman and her husband, Billy; hersister, Ruby Garrett of Ripley; nine grandchildren; and numerousgreat-grandchildren.
Joe Hines
Services for Joe Hines of Akron, Ohio, are 11 a.m. Saturday,Dec. 11 at New Fork United Methodist Church in Meadville withburial in the church cemetery. Marshall Funeral Home is in chargeof arrangements.
Visitation is Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at the church.
Mr. Hines, 72, died Dec. 1, 2004, in Akron. He was born inMeadville on June 20, 1932, to Bruce Hines and Lula BrownJohnson.
He was a construction worker.
Survivors are his wife, Verdell Hines; two sons, Elijah Hinesand Joe Watkins; two sisters, Margaret Burks and ErnestineAnderson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives andfriends.
Herbert ‘Hubcap’ Moore Sr.
Services for Herbert “Hubcap” Moore Sr. of Meadville are 2 p.m.Saturday, Dec. 11 at Marshall Funeral Home Chapel in Bude withburial in St. Luke Cemetery in McCall Creek.
Visitation is Friday from noon until 5 p.m. and Saturday fromnoon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Moore, 70, died Dec. 4, 2004, in McCall Creek. He was bornin Franklin County on March 7, 1934, to Judge Moore and Sarah JaneLee Moore.
He was a retired logger.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers; onesister; and one daughter.
Survivors are his wife, Josie B. Moore; two sons, Herbert MooreJr. and Brian Newborn, of Detroit, Mich.; four daughters, KarenWilliams and Vivian Byrd, of Detroit, Mich., Lisa Williams andSheryl Moore, of Brookhaven; one brother, Leonard Moore of McCallCreek; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host ofnieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Annie Mae Smith
Services for Annie Mae Smith of Brookhaven are 2 p.m. Saturday,Dec. 11 at Heucks Retreat Baptist Church with burial in the churchcemetery.
Visitation is Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Harrigill FuneralHome.
Mrs. Smith, 93, died Dec. 8, 2004, at her residence. She wasborn in Lawrence County on Feb. 13, 1911, to E.L. Sutton andFrancis Amanda Ainsworth.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Heucks Retreat BaptistChurch where she taught Sunday school and bible school. She was amember of the WMU and the Lincoln County Homemaker’s Club.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her sisters, Mamie S.Pope and Delia S. Douglas; her brothers, Tom Sutton, Leon Sutton,Elisha Sutton and Vic Sutton.
Survivors are her daughter Patsy Atherton and her husband,Perry, of Brandon; her sons, the Rev. Robert Lloyd “Bobby” Smithand his wife, Nina, W.H. “Hamp” Smith and his wife, Sherra, Rudy J.Smith, and his wife, Linda, all of Brookhaven; her brother-in-law,Jewell H. Smith of Brookhaven; and eight grandchildren, KristiAdams, Todd Smith, Connie Preasley, Scott Smith, Brett Smith,Andrew Smith, Leslie Beaton and Myles Atherton.
Memorials may be made to the Heucks Retreat Church building fundand the Mississippi Baptist Children’s Village.
