Lady Wolves elude Delgado; men fall

NEW ORLEANS — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves knocked off the DelgadoCommunity College Lady Dolphins 53-50 Saturday afternoon in thelast scheduled game of the season before the holidays.

In the men’s game, the Wolves fell to the Dolphins 61-60 in thefinal seconds.

The Co-Lin women ( 6-4 ) got 15 points, 17rebounds and four blocked shots from Travalyn Smith. Gloria Lewisfired in 12 points and had three assists. Pulling down 11 reboundswas Jessica Melton.

“The Lady Wolves overall played poorly,” said Co-Lin women’scoach Gwyn Young. “It was a good win at a hard place to play. Thegame basically came down to us outrebounding Delgado but we hadmore turnovers.

“Hopefully we can come back from the holidays and continue toimprove on the year, ” added Young.

The Wolves (5-5 ) led by five points in thefinal minutes but turned the ball over twice to give Delgado achance. With 17 seconds left to play, Delgado had three shots forthe win and on the third shot with .2 seconds left, made thewinning basket.

At halftime, Co-Lin trailed Delgado 35-29.

“We’re still a long way from being a team that can win at thelevel that we need to be at,” stated Co-Lin men’s coach DennisSims. “If we would have just shot a poor 50 percent from the foulline (10-24) we could have won. That is just one of the areas thatwe must improve on. We also had several players who played with alack of enthusiasm that it takes to be successful.”

Pacing the Wolves with 15 points and four rebounds was JoeHolliday. Ledell Eackles pumped in 14 points. Scoring 10 points andgrabbing 12 rebounds was Tremaine Enoch.

Mason Scott paced Delgado with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Co-Lin returns to basketball action following the holidays onThursday, Jan. 6, 2005, entertaining Delgado.
