Brookhaven native David Swalm recently donated $5 million toMississippi State University – an adimirable act in and ofitself.
What makes the BHS alumnus’ gift even more valuable to ourcommunity is his request that MSU use the money to fundscholarships for local students.
Swalm specified $4 million be used to further the education ofBrookhaven High graduates and the other $1 million for graduates ofBrookhaven Academy.
Scholarship recipients must have at least a 3.0 grade-pointaverage and plan to enter a technical field of study.
Swalm’s donation shows not only his generosity but also hiscommitment to education as well as to deserving students, theirfamilies and their future.
Area students who are considering attending Mississippi Stateand entering a technical profession should consider takingadvantage of Swalm’s gift as they continue their education.
For others, who might not otherwise afford college studies, thiscould be the opportunity of a lifetime.
Though he now lives in Texas, Swalm has proven himself still tobe very much a part of this community, and we are grateful.
