Co-Lin sweeps E. Central

DECATUR — Guard Ledell Eackles pumped in 22 points and theCo-Lin Wolves romped to a 76-73 Monday night win over East CentralCommunity College in South Division basketball action. In thewomen’s game, Co-Lin got 18 points from forward Travalyn Smith and17 from guard Gloria Lewis in a 66-61 triumph.

Co-Lin resumes South Division play Thursday night, hostingarchrival Southwest Community College for a doubleheader. Thewomen’s game tips off at 6 p.m. in Mullen Gymnasium.

The Wolves (7-5, 1-0) got 12 points from DexterMiddleton and 11 from Cedric Walker in last night’s road victory.On the backboards, Arvel Keys led Co-Lin with 10 rebounds. Walkerhad 8 boards and Tremaine Enoch 6.

“We played hard the entire game but our turnovers kept EastCentral in the game,” said Co-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims. “It’sgood to open on the road and get a conference win.”

Sims saw his team overcome 16 turnovers. The Warriors had22.

Middleton scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half to helpCo-Lin turn back the Warriors. Keys had 6 rebounds in the firsthalf.

East Central (3-9, 0-1) got 18 points from Ryan Hudson and 11from Garrick Nichols.

Co-Lin outrebounded the Warriors 38-25.

Ivory Dishmon and Brandon Dishmon handed out 5 assists apiecefor Co-Lin. Keys made 4 steals.

The Lady Wolves (8-4, 1-0) also won theirsecond game of the new year. Crystal Brown chipped in 10 points and7 rebounds to the victory. Smith and Loretta Martin each had 8rebounds.

“We played very hard the entire game and went to the boardshard,” said Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young. “Our guards did a goodjob getting us some baskets from the outside.”

With 1:27 left in the game, Lewis sacked a trey which put Co-Linup 62-58.

“We had a good defensive stand at the end,” said Young. “We alsoshot our free throws well,” making 14 of 18 from the charityline.

East Central got 17 points from Kristin Chaney and 13 from KimCox.
