Bears sweep Bo’ Chitto

BOGUE CHITTO — Tyler Smith pumped in a game-high 29 pointsFriday night to direct the West Lincoln Bears to a 55-38 Division7-1A win over the Bogue Chitto Bobcats. Smith also grabbed tworebounds.

In the varsity girls game, Alicia Kennedy fired in 22 points andgrabbed seven rebounds as the Lady Bears roared past the LadyBobcats 60-34.

The Bears (14-6, 9-0) got added support from Shane Lynch with 10points, two rebounds, two steals and three assists. Leading witheight rebounds each were Kevin King and Bradleigh Rice. StephenJones added five rebounds. made two steals and had fiveassists.

“We played well in spurts,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young.”Our defense was pretty good until the fourth quarter. Then we gotcaught watching too much.”

Bogue Chitto (1-17, 1-7) was led by Joseph Hart’s 11 points.Dantae Ratcliff and Keyonna Perkins followed with seven pointsapiece.

“West Lincoln did an outstanding job on free throws and we didnot make ours,” said Bogue Chitto boys coach Todd Wilson. “We hadproblems converting easy shots. We did not execute too well.Defensively, we made a run but could not gain control.”

This was the most focused game we had thisyear,” stated Young. “Everybody was ready to play. Our bench did agood job coming in to help out.”

The Lady Bears (17-3, 9-0) got added support from guard EricaShaw with 12 points, six rebounds and four steals. Finishing with10 points, six rebounds and three steals was Britnee Smith.

West Lincoln’s Lauren Smith pulled down nine rebounds, made foursteals and had three assists. Following with five rebounds, foursteals and three assists was Monica Price.

“We did not execute on offense,” said Bogue Chitto girls coachChristi Terrell. “We gave West Lincoln entirely too many open shotson defense and West Lincoln was knocking them down.”

Meleah Brown’s 11 points and five rebounds powered the LadyBobcats. Kimberlee Thomas grabbed eight points and made threesteals. Candace Braxton and Tanesha Johnson pulled down sixrebounds each.

Junior varsity games

Nick Smith netted 10 points to lead the West Lincoln boys to a26-16 win over Bogue Chitto. Jammal McNulty led Bogue Chitto withfive points.

The Lady Bears got 14 points from Talisha Fells and 13 fromCandy Herring in the 36-30 win over the hosts. Devon Welch scorednine points for the Lady Bobcats.

Bogue Chitto travels to Jackson Monday night to meet MississippiSchool for the Deaf.

West Lincoln entertains Dexter Tuesday for three games,beginning with the JV boys at 5 p.m.
