Car smashes store window; driver injured

A Monticello women suffered minor injuries around 9:45 a.m.Monday when her car propelled her through a Brookhaven shopwindow.

Betty Short, 61, was treated at King’s Daughters Medical Centerand released with several large cuts after the accident, BrookhavenPolice Department Capt. Roger Wilson said.

“She apparently got out of her car to ask for directions andeither forgot to put it in park or it slipped out of gear,” hesaid.

Short moved to the front of the car and pushed against it tryingto stop it, Wilson said, but the car shoved her through a window atthe Furniture Factory Outlet on Schwem Ave.

A man nearby tried to assist Short but was too late, Wilsonsaid. The man escaped injury.

Other than its display window, the store was not damaged, Wilsonsaid.
