Loyd Star Hornets split games at Seminary

SEMINARY — The Loyd Star Hornets clipped North Forrest 3-2 andfell to West Marion 10-2 Saturday in the Seminary Tournament.

With the game deadlocked at 2-all in the eighth inning, LoydStar’s Austin Fagan was hit by a pitch and took first base. KyleJames singled and Jarred Rogers walked to load the bases. MichaelBritt singled to score Fagan with the game-winning run.
Rogers (1-0) was the winning pitcher, relieving starter James inthe eighth inning. Rogers allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, struck out 6batters and walked 5.
At the plate, Rogers powered the Hornets with two doubles. Brittsingled twice. Patrick Holcomb also doubled.
“We played real well,” said Loyd Star head baseball coachJonathan Breakfield. “James gave up just four hits. He pitched aheckuva game.”
Kyle Maxie, a Florida State signee, led North Forrest with twodoubles.
West Marion 10, Loyd Star 2
In the second game, Loyd Star suffered a letdown. Holcomb (1-1)suffered the loss with 8 runs (6 earned) off of 7 hits, struck out6 and walked 3. Rogers worked the final 2 2/3 innings with 2 runsallowed on 2 hits, 3 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Joey Rainer posted the win for West Marion.
“We came out flat real flat,” said Breakfield.
Powering West Marion at the plate was Lorenzo Gouch with a homerun, a double and a single. Jonathan Foxworth and Kolby Stewarteach doubled twice.
Loyd Star was led by Fagan’s home run. Holcomb ripped a double.Tyler Williford and James singled.
Loyd Star travels to Wesson Friday night for a doubleheader withthe Cobras. The junior varsity game begins at 4:30 p.m. followed bythe varsity at 6:30.
