Services for the Rev. John William Smith Jr., of Brookhaven, are10 a.m. Tuesday, March 8 at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel withburial in Sylvarena Baptist Church Cemetery in Wesson.

Visitation is today from 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Rev. Smith, 72, died March 6, 2005, at his residence. He wasborn in Wesson on June 11, 1932, the ninth of ten children, to Johnand Luty Smith.

In June 1963 he was licensed and ordained as a Southern BaptistMinister and over the years pastored several churches throughoutLincoln, Franklin and Copiah counties. As a bi-vocational ministerhe worked for Sunflower and SuperValu grocery stores and in lateryears, was a Lincoln County Constable. He took great joy in servingChrist and His community and in doing so, touched the lives of manyduring his life.

He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather,brother and uncle and will be greatly missed by his family andfriends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John William Smith Sr.and Luty Jane Lupo Smith; three sisters, Eva Sanders, Gladys Smithand Alma Smith; three brothers, Ed Smith, Vernon Smith and RichardSmith; and his eldest son, William David Smith.

Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Charlene Bracey Smith; histwo daughters, Pam Smith, of Brookhaven, and Beverly Smith Almond,of Bay St. Louis; his two sons, Kenneth L. Smith, of Quitman; andSteve Smith, of Brookhaven; his sister, Mildred Smith Browning, ofBrookhaven; his brother, Lee Smith, of Brandon; thirteengrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces,nephews and friends.

The family wishes to acknowledge with sincere appreciation thesupport and kindness of friends, relatives, and the amazing staffof Brookhaven Hospice Ministries for their special care,compassion, understanding, and most importantly, their prayersthroughout his illness.
