Lady Bobcats rally to beat Loyd Star 11-10

BOGUE CHITTO — Chelsey Miller’s game-winning single in theeighth inning powered the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats for to an 11-10Division 7-1A/2A win over the Loyd Star Lady Hornets in fastpitchsoftball action.

Meleah Brown, who turned 17 Monday, was the winning pitcher withseven strikeouts and five walks. Caroline Burks absorbed the losswith five strikeouts and one walk.

Loyd Star led Bogue Chitto 8-5 after five innings. The LadyBobcats battled back with a 5-2 run over the next three innings totie the game at 10-all at the end of seven.

“It was a heckuva game for both teams,” said Bogue Chitto coachScott Leggett. “I’m proud of my girls for not giving up. We battledback and again I’m extremely proud of them.”

Powering Bogue Chitto (8-5, 4-5) with a pair of home runs(fourth and sixth innings) was Latoya Braxton. Miller tripled andsingled twice. Brown and Brynna Wallace collected a double and asingle apiece. Singling twice was Devon Welch. Dori Hall doubled.Candace Avants and Kelli Howard singled.

“It was a good ball game,” said Loyd Star coach Jan Delaughter.”Both teams hit the ball. We just could not handle the pressure atthe end. And we made some big mistakes.”

Haley Sones paced the Lady Hornets (13-7, 8-3) with threesingles. Abby Delaughter doubled a singled. Doubling were Burks andBrittany Beeson. Hitting safely were Annie Smith and KristenNewell.

Junior varsity

Loyd Star knocked off Bogue Chitto 7-4 in the JV game. ArielHunsucker was the winning pitcher with two strikeouts and threewalks. Dori Hall absorbed the loss with four strikeouts and threewalks.

Bogue Chitto entertains West Lincoln today for a doubleheaderbeginning at 5 p.m. Loyd Star hosts Salem Thursday, beginning at 5with the JV.

Carrie Moak doubled for Loyd Star. Laura Britt, Leah Britt,Karah Smith and Emily Smith singled.
