BA golfers second in state AA

The host Brookhaven Academy Cougar golf team shot 321 on achilly, damp Monday to capture second place in the MPSA State AATournament at the Brookhaven County Club.

First place was won by Prairie View (La.) Academy with 314.Winston Academy was third with 325. The remaining order of finishwas Clarksdale Lee 336, Columbia 342, Trinity 342, Leake 352, NorthDelta 363,

For the first time ever, BA has qualified for the State OverallGolf Tournament which will be held at the Greenville Country Club.The top three teams from this district advance, joining six othersquads.

“I am really proud of our seniors,” said Brookhaven Academy golfcoach Barry Gray.

Scoring for BA were Jeffrey White 72, Scott Byrd 80, JohnRushing 83, Hunter Wilson 86, Will Hodges 87 and Garrett Johnson91. White finished as the second lowest medalist of the day.

“I enjoyed it,” said White. “I hit the ball well. “I left a fewputts out.”

Winston’s Paul McMillan shot 71 to capture top medalist honors.Prairie View’s Heath Hines shot 74 for third and Brandon Hall 75for fourth medalist spot.
