Services for Curtis Tillman Bishop, of Gillsburg, are 11 a.m.Friday, May 13 at Gillsburg Baptist Church with burial in GillsburgMemorial Gardens. The Rev. Charles Kirkfield, the Rev. Robbie Brittand the Rev. Byron Wilkinson will officiate. Vocalist will beCurtis Brewer.

Visitation is today from 5-9 p.m. at Hartman Funeral Home ofMcComb and Friday from 9-11 a.m. at the church.

Mr. Bishop, 68, died May 10, 2005, in Woodville. He was born inMcComb on Oct. 22, 1936, to the Rev. Byron Tillman and LouisaSullivan Bishop.

He was the former superintendent of education in Amite Countyfor eight years. He was a graduate of Meadville High School andMississippi College, where he received a bachelor’s degree andmaster of education degree. He was an educator for 40 years. Heserved as a teacher and coach in Biloxi and Clinton, La.; teacherand principal in Pine Gove, La.; and assistant superintendent ofeducation in St. Helena Parish, La.

Mr. Bishop was a member of Gillsburg Baptist Church, where heserved as Sunday school director and teacher and was a longtimemember of the choir. In recent years, he had served the church asminister of music.

Mr. Bishop served on the Amite County School Board for 12 yearsand the Southwest Mississippi Community College Board of Trusteesfor 24 years. He was a member of Mississippi ProfessionalEducators, the Mississippi Association of School Superintendentsand the Mississippi Association of School Administrators.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his wife, Barbara Ann Blount Bishop; a brother andsister-in-law, the Rev. B.T. Bishop Jr. and Betty, of Meadville;two sisters, Tommie Lou Bishop Wilkinson and Mary Katherine BishopBrewer, both of McComb; a daughter, Terri Lynn Bishop Aucoin andher husband, Sam, of Carencro, La.; a son, James Steven Bishop andhis wife, Melanie Hammill Bishop, of Summit; and fivegrandchildren, Sammy Aucoin, Jean-Paul Aucoin, Anna Aucoin andMichael Aucoin, all of Carencro, and Katherine Bishop, ofSummit.

Pallbearers will be Tillmon Bishop, Gene Alex Bishop, LukeBrewer, Ray Wilkinson, Larry Powell, Sam Aucoin and ReeceWilkinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Anderson, Miller Hammill,Clyde Aucoin, Stuart Hemphill, Walter Carpenter, Rickie Williams,Lauren Lanier, Vernon Lee Carter, Jimmy Dale Newman, Ronnie Travis,Dalton Williams Jr., Princeton Wilson and Durwood Gordon.
