Co-Lin captures NJCAA Division II Southeast

The Copiah Lincoln Community College Wolves captured the NJCAASoutheast Super Regional Baseball Tournament at St. CatharineCommunity College in Kentucky Saturday afternoon.

The Wolves, the Region 23 champions, are on their way to theNJCAA Division II World Series in Millington, Tenn., nextweekend.

Co-Lin (30-26-1) rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning forthe comeback and beat St. Catharine Patriots 8-7 in the second gameof the championship series. Earlier in the day, the Patriots(37-10) whipped Co-Lin 11-0 in the first game and forced the secondtitle matchup.

The Wolves, coached by Keith Case, beat Lenoir (N.C.) 7-3Thursday and Itawamba (41-16) of Fulton, Miss., 2-0 on Friday toadvance to Saturday’s title game as the only undefeated team in thetourney. In the victory over Itawamba, Co-Lin sophomoreright-hander Ryan Belanger (7-6) recorded a career-high 17strikeouts and one base on balls.

St. Catherine battled back in the losers bracket, beating LenoirFriday morning then Itawamba 3-1 in the must-win game Fridayafternoon game.

Co-Lin appeared in the 2000 World Series and finishedfourth.
