Store worker struck by car in parking lot

A Wednesday afternoon lunch outing resulted in an emergency roomvisit for a local store employee.
Evelyn March, 54, of Stonewall Lane, Brookhaven, was leavingWal-Mart Supercenter for a lunch break Wednesday when she wasstruck by a vehicle driven by Shameka Lynn Jackson, of Main Street,Brookhaven, Brookhaven Assistant Police Chief Nolan Jones said.March works in the store’s accounting department.
March said she looked both ways before stepping off the curb infront of the store and took a few steps before being struck byJackson’s 2004 Honda Accord.
March was transported by ambulance to King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. She said she has five stitches over her right eye, as wellas cuts, abrasions and scratches on her face. She said her leftwrist is also broken and she has bruises on her hips and legs.
“I’ve had a lot of people tell me it could have been worse thanit was,” March said this morning. “I’m lucky.”
Jones said the accident is still under investigation by theBrookhaven Police Department. He cautioned drivers to be especiallycareful now that school is out and to pay attention to pedestrianswhen driving through area parking lots.
