Natchez nips Brookhaven in 13s

SUMMIT — The Natchez all-stars edged Brookhaven’s all-stars 8-7Sunday afternoon in the finals of the Dixie Boys Baseball 13sDistrict Tournament. Brookhaven rallied for 5 runs in the seventhbut came up just short at the Windsor Gay Youth Sports Complex.

Brookhaven had rebounded from a 9-2 Thursday loss to Natchez bydefeating Summit 12-5 Saturday.

At the plate, catcher Nick Peavey doubled and singled forBrookhaven. Travis Leggett tripled and Jamison Powell doubled. CoryAllen singled twice. Tyler Case, T.J. Floyd and Jake Bakersingled.

Brookhaven fell behind 8-2 but rallied for 5 runs in theseventh. Brook left the tying and winning runs on base.

“We waited too late in the game to start hitting the ball,” saidBrookhaven head coach Doyle Brown. “Natchez got five of their runsoff walks by our pitchers.”

Michael Martin started on the mound for Brookhaven. He struckout 2 batters and walked 2, giving up 1 hit.

T.J. Floyd relieved Martin in the third and went 2 innings. RyanKennedy fanned 4 batters and walked 2 in 3 innings of relief.

Third baseman Audie Crosby singled twice and doubled forNatchez. The winners got two doubles from Rudy Lazarus. CalebJohnson doubled.

Cole Mann started for Natchez and went 6.1 innings. He fanned 5Brookhaven batters and walked 1. He allowed 6 hits and 6 runs.

Colin Dollar replaced Mann and got the save. He fanned 2 battersand gave up 1 hit.
