Services for Dr. Frederick Elliott “Fred” Smith, of Pascagoula,are 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28 at Calvary Baptist Church inPascagoula with burial in Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula.

Visitation is today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home inEscatawpa. An online register may be viewed and signed for Dr.Smith at www.heritagefuneralhome.us.

Dr. Smith, 87, died July 25, 2005, in Pascagoula. He was born inBrookhaven on March 30, 1918.

He was a retired dentist in Pascagoula for many years, was aveteran of the Army, where he retired as a lieutenant colonel withthe National Guard, an alumnus of Mississippi College and LoyolaUniversity, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was aSunday school teacher and choir member.

He spent many hours as a avid golfer at Mississippi NationalGolf Course in Gautier, Pine Island Country Club in Ocean Springs,and Pascagoula Country Club.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 38 years, Blanch Smith;his daughter, Lynn Smith Watson; and a sister, Evelyn Lofton.

Survivors are his daughter, Gayle Smith Bowman, of Pascagoula;his sons, Frederick Jay Smith, of San Antonio, Texas, James Shannon”Bit” Smith, of Pascagoula; his brother, Stephen Jet Smith, ofBrookhaven; a sister, Jane Covington, of Clinton; sevengrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church inPascagoula.
