Pair charged in theft from bridge work site

Two Lincoln County men are facing charges after allegedlyburglarizing a construction trailer at the Bogue Chitto bridge worksite Tuesday night, Sheriff Wiley Calcote said.

The burglary at the T.L. Wallace trailer was reported Wednesdaymorning. Calcote said the trailer’s door had been broken off andseveral items were taken.

“It looks like they’d taken a chain to it and pulled the dooroff,” Calcote said.

Calcote said a variety of hand tools, a generator/welder, a flatbottom boat and other items were taken. He said the items taken inthe burglary had been recovered and would be returned.

Derrick Thomas, 25, of Mount Pleasant Drive, and Will Thomas,26, of Mallalieu Road, were arrested later Wednesday afterallegedly trying to pawn some of the items at 51 Pawn Shop.Following the burglary, Calcote said authorities had alerted localpawn shops that the stolen items may tried to be pawned.

“(The pawn shop) called us when they came in,” Calcote said.

Calcote said charges against the Thomases, who are cousins, arepending.

The sheriff said authorities plan to consult with the districtattorney’s office today. He added that other charges arepossible.

“We’re looking at a couple of burglaries that this could be tiedinto,” said Calcote, while also mentioning Pike Countyincidents.
