Sarah Gene Brown

Services for Sarah Gene Brown, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. Saturday,Aug. 20 at New Sight Baptist Church with burial in New SightCemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is today from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m until2 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Brown, 75, died Aug. 18, 2005, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Shewas born on Nov. 13, 1929, to Eugene and Irene Thompson and raisedin Hazlehurst.

She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She will always beremembered for her love of life and devotion to her church, familyand friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and one brother, GlynnThompson.

Survivors are her husband of 55 years, James B. Brown, ofBrookhaven; her sons, Steve Brown and his wife, Viola, and DarylBrown and his wife, Jan, all of Brookhaven; her grandson, JasonBrown and his wife, Kelly of Brookhaven; her stepgranddaughters,Ashley Ates and Kristen Ates, both of Brookhaven; hergreat-grandsons, Caleb Brown and Dawson Brown, both of Brookhaven;a great-granddaughter, Harley Brown, of Brookhaven; her sisters,Joyce Honea, of Madison, Louise Hux, Linda Smith, Cheryl Rabalais,all of Brookhaven; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Neva McWhorter Russell

Services for Neva McWhorter, of Monticello, are 11 a.m. Saturday,Aug. 20 at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello with burial in BaySprings City Cemetery.

Visitation is Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Russell, 95, died Aug. 18, 2005, at the Lawrence CountyNursing Center in Monticello. She was born on Aug. 28, 1909, toBenjamin Cullen McWhorter and Beulah Sweat McWhorter.

She was a retired schoolteacher and owner of a dress shop in BaySprings for 30 years. She grew up in Hattiesburg. She was a memberof the garden clubs in both Monticello and Bay Springs. She was anactive member of Monticello United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Glen H.Russell; a son, Joe Lynn Russell; one sister; and fivebrothers.

Survivors are her sister, Elsie Doyle Kensington, of Maryland; herbrother, Maurice McWhorter, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and a host ofnieces and nephews.
