Lady ‘Cats bite Ole Brook

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Cats took advantage of thefriendly confines of Stan Long Field, keeping their perfect recordintact with a 9-2 win over the Brookhaven Lady Panthers in Mondaynight slowpitch softball action.

Lady ‘Cats pitcher Latoya Braxton (6-0) authored the win, whileBrittany Smith suffered the loss for Ole Brook.

Brookhaven will be at North Pike Thursday, with the juniorvarsity game beginning at 6 p.m. and the varsity contest startingat 7. Bogue Chitto starts Division 7-1A play Thursday at NatchezCathedral, with a 4 p.m. varsity game to be followed by the JVgame.

The Lady ‘Cats (7-0) pounded out 13 hits, scoring at least 1 runin each inning. Left-center fielder Candace Avants led the offensewith 2 singles, a double and 3 runs scored. Braxton singled,doubled and scored twice. Devon Welch singled twice and scored.Shaquille Burton singled, tripled and scored. Chelsey Millersingled and scored. Kelli Howard scored.

Others collecting hits for Bogue Chitto head coach Scott Leggettwere Meleah Brown with a single and a triple. Caitlin Owensingled.

“Both teams hit the ball hard tonight,” said Leggett. “There isalways room for improvement.”

The Lady ‘Cats took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first andled 5-1 after 2 innings.

Brookhaven (4-2), coached by Lisa Covington, lost 9-4 to BogueChitto last week. The Panthers got run support from Smith andSabrina Delaughter. Smith also singled and doubled, whileDelaughter singled. Jana Wallace singled twice. Terri Hodges,Ashley Sykes, Christi Martin and Katie Smith also hit safely

Brookhaven posted a 7-1 win in the JV game.

Invitational Saturday

The Bogue Chitto Invitational is scheduled for Saturdayand will be played on the softball and baseball fields. Actionbegins at 10 a.m. and features West Lincoln vs. Lawrence County andEnterprise vs. McComb.

Also entered are St. Aloysius and BogueChitto.
