Co-Lin football debut delayed

WESSON — Due to a conference ruling, all athletics in theMississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges will bepostponed until the week of Sept. 18. Activities will resume Sept.19 as conference members continue recovering from the destructioncaused by Hurricane Katrina.

The Co-Lin Wolfpack is scheduled to play at Northwest CommunityCollege on Thursday, Sept. 22, with kickoff set for 7 p.m..Saturday’s Sept. 10 home game against Northeast Community Collegehas been canceled.

According to Co-Lin media relations director Natalie Davis, theSept. 15 South Division game with Pearl River will be moved to Nov.3, at Poplarville. Pearl River is the defending national championand preseason No. 1 choice. All MACJC schools will play a 7-gamefootball schedule.

The state championship playoffs begin the week of Nov. 6. Thereduced number of regular-season games will not affect the MACJC’seligibility for bowl games.

The Wolfpack’s Sept. 1, home debut against Holmes CommunityCollege was canceled last week. Co-Lin’s Stone Stadium escapedmajor damage from the storm, although the South end zone goal postswere blown down.

On Sept. 20, Co-Lin’s soccer teams will play Jones County JuniorCollege at 2 and 4 p.m.

At a teleconference Tuesday morning, the MACJC presidentsdecided to delay all athletic events until the week of Sept. 19.Hurricane Katrina had forced postponement of all activities lastweek.

Gulf Coast, Pearl River and East Central Community College’ssustained severe damage to their facilities.
