Hinds AHS girls take BHS tourney

The Hinds AHS Lady Bulldogs captured the 2005 BrookhavenInvitational basketball title Saturday night in Sinclair Gymnasium,with a 55-31 win over the South Pike Lady Eagles.

In other girls action, the Tylertown Lady Chiefs blew past theWesson Lady Cobras 75-41 and the Wilkinson County Lady Wildcatsdefeated the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats 41-32 in loser’s bracketgames. The Brookhaven Lady Panthers flew past the McComb LadyTigers 65-43 in the consolation matchup.

The Lady Chiefs (4-2) got a game-high 20 points from OctaviaBearden, followed by Kampertreece Slocum with 19. Stephanie Dillontossed in 10 points for head coach Lavern Lee.

The Lady Cobras (0-4), coached by Jemmye Anne Helms, were led byAlexis Crosby with 18 points. Perry K. Furr pumped in 11.

Wilkinson Co. 41, Bogue Chitto 32

The Lady Wildcats (3-3) got 11 points from Kimberly Griffin.Wilkinson Co. is coached by Edwin White.

Kimberlee Thomas’ game-high 13 points led coach ChristiTerrell’s Lady Bobcats (1-2).

Brookhaven 65, McComb 43

The Lady Panthers (3-3) were led by senior Blanche Wilson with agame-high 19 points. Guard Portia Dickey tossed in 14. CenterSwayze Black added 15 points for head coach Billy Holmes.

The Lady Tigers (4-3) got 11 points from Alisha Rayburn and 10from April Johnson. McComb is coached by Angela Johnson who is inher first year at the helm.

Hinds AHS 51, South Pike 33

The Lady Bulldogs picked up the championship behind a game-high19 points from Cieta Davis. Jerrica Davis followed with 13 pointsfor head coach Bruce Baker.

The Lady Eagles, coached by Marcus Flippin, were paced byDominique Brumfield with 9 points.
