Wesson rips Enterprise

Wesson senior guard Mason Warren pumped in a career-high 27points and made 5 steals Tuesday night to power the Cobras in a68-45 win over the host Enterprise Yellow Jackets.

In the varsity girls game, Wesson placed 4 starters in doublefigures on its way to a 60-35 victory over Enterprise.

Enterprise invades Loyd Star and Wesson hosts Bogue ChittoFriday night.

Wesson 68, Enterprise 45

“We needed a win and we got one,” said Wesson boys coach RonKessler. It ended the Cobras’ 5-game losing streak.

“Mason Warren had a career-high 27 points,” said Kessler. “PhilFortenberry finally showed up tonight.”

Fortenberry finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points andpulling down 14 rebounds. He also blocked 2 shots and was 4-of-6from the free-throw line.

“It was an all-around, great team effort,” added Kessler.

The game was tight in the first quarter, with the Cobras (1-5)holding a 1-point, 15-14, lead. Wesson got some turnovers for somequick points and went on a 22-9 run to build a 37-21 lead overEnterprise at the half.

“We must play to our potential,” said first-year Enterprise boyshead coach Justin Bass. “We have come a long ways. We still have along ways to go. Wesson is well coached. Coach Kessler does a goodjob.”

The Jackets came back and cut the Cobras’ lead to 12 points,49-37, going into the final frame but Wesson kept the pressure onfor a 19-8 run and preserved the win.

Leading the Jackets (1-2) with 14 points was Chris Fuller.Andrew Williamson fired in 10 points.

Adding support to the Wesson win with 11 points was Adrian King.Brandt Hood pulled down 6 rebounds and made 4 steals.

Wesson 60, Enterprise 35

Treys from guards Alexis Crosby and Perry K. Furr helped theLady Cobras to a 16-10 first-quarter lead over the Lady Jackets. A19-15 run by the visitors gave them a 35-25 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Wesson outscored Enterprise 25-10 to securethe win.

“We played great,” said Wesson girls coach Jemmye Ann Helms. “Weplayed great together. We weren’t selfish.

“We did a great job on (Alisha) Mason, (Kacy) Rutland and(Lyndsey) Everett,” added Helms. “If those three girls get started,you’ll get beat.”

Directing the 2-4 Lady Cobras with 14 points apiece were ChristyWatson and Furr. Bethany Dykes and Crosby finished with 13 pointsapiece. Sam Ellison and Dykes led off the backboards with 8rebounds apiece. Collected 4 steals and 2 assists was Crosby.Summer Easterling had 3 steals. Watson added 3 assists.

The Lady Jackets, coached by Jill Nations, were led by Masonwith 14 points before fouling out at the 5:23 mark in the fourthquarter. Mason had 2 technical fouls. Rutland followed with 8points.

Junior High Action

The Enterprise boys clipped Wesson 37-34 in junior highaction.

Thomas Allen led the Jackets with 11 points. Cody Bristerfinished with 10 points.

For Wesson, Caleb Broome scored 6 points followed by Kyle Crosswith 5.

In the girls game, Wesson punched in a 51-24 win overEnterprise.

High scorer of the game was Wesson’s Ann Shelby Davis with 18points.

Ashley Greer netted 7 points for Enterprise.
