Bogue Chitto blows out Salem Wildcats

BOGUE CHITTO — The Salem Wildcats were no match for the BogueChitto Bobcats Friday night. Bogue Chitto swept Salem in 2 varsitygames and 2 junior high contests in Calhoun Gymnasium.

Shasta Porter’s 25 points led the Lady Bobcats to a 90-51 winover the Lady Wildcats. Joining Porter in double digits wereKimberlee Thomas with 24 points, Meleah Brown with 17 and LaToyaBraxton with 10.

In the varsity boys game, Dontae Ratcliff’s game-high 24 points,9 rebounds and 2 steals helped Bogue Chitto to a 63-53 victory overSalem.

The Bogue Chitto varsity teams resume play following theChristmas Holidays on Jan. 13 at West Lincoln. The junior highteams begin play on Jan. 9 in the Mid-South Jr. High Tournament atEnterprise.

Bogue Chitto 90, Salem 51

The Lady Bobcats led the Lady Wildcats 27-18 in the firstquarter. Bogue Chitto went on a 27-9 run in the second quarter topush the lead to 54-27 at the half.

Leading off the backboards with 24 rebounds was Porter. Brownfollowed with 6 rebounds and had 10 assists.

The win improved Christi Terrell’s Lady ‘Cat record to 6-5 onthe season.

“Bogue Chitto is great,” said Salem coach Kevin Murphy after thegame. “They jumped out on us.”

Salem’s Sarah Jennings scored a game-high 28 points. KeoshaPeters finished with 10. The Lady Wildcats have one win on theseason.

Bogue Chitto 63, Salem 53

In the boys game, Bogue Chitto shot well from the free throwline, going 15 of 18 which came in handy in the fourth quarter.Ratcliff was 9 of 11 on the night followed by Alonzo Miner going 4for 5 and Nic Hatten hitting 2 for 2.

Salem struggled from the charity stripe, finishing 10 of 24.

In the final 38 seconds of the game, Ratcliff went 6 of 8 fromthe free throw line to secure the win.

The 5-5 Bobcats, coached by Andrew Smithie, got 17 points fromMiner. Keyouna Perkins led off the backboards with 16 rebounds.Mario Addison pulled down 12 rebounds. Hatten also made 2 stealsand had 3 assists.

Winless Salem got 19 points from Garreth Murphy. Tarian Tatefired in 15 points followed by Shannon Ratcliff with 10.

Junior high games

The Bogue Chitto girls crushed Salem 48-19, powered by DarcyMiller’s 20 points. Shelby Tobias finished with 14 points.

The Bobcats crushed the Wildcats 52-20. Justin Gaines led thehosts with 27 points. Garrett Wallace and Jerome Porter followedwith 6 apiece.
