Ole Brook linebacker Dixon named Best Defensive Player

Ole Brook senior linebacker Marlon Dixon was a catalyst for theBrookhaven Panthers in a major rebuilding season. Dixon’s effortshave earned him the Best Defensive Player award on the 2005All-Region 6-4A Football Team.
Dixon, the son of Renard and Sheila Dixon, said it was arewarding season, especially after the Panthers won the Class 4Astate title in 2004. “You must put your trust in God and believewhat your coaches tell you.”
He accounted for 52 tackles. He had 2 quarterback sacks, 2blocked punts and 1 interception. He also recovered 2 fumbles.
“Marlon is a smart, very conscientious player,” said Ole Brookhead coach Tucker Peavey. “When the ball is snapped, he attacks theball. He runs well and has been a good leader for us.”
Dixon is among seven Panthers named to the All-Division firstteam. The others are quarterback Bobo Rancifer, tight end SimmieYarbrouogh, offensive lineman Darion Smith, defensive linemanVirgil Sanders, cornerbacks Jerome Avery and Anthony Caffie andplacekicker Will Thibodeaux.
Terry senior tailback Anthony Dixon was chosen Most ValuablePlayer in the division. Dixon (6-1, 230) rushed for 2,683 yards andscored 32 touchdowns as the Bulldogs, coached by Bill French,finished 11-2, winning the region crown for the first time.
Kentrell Cleveland of region runner-up Mendenhall was named BestOffensive Player.
Lawrence County was represented on the first team by seniorsTaebyus Smith, Kelly Pounds and Justin Lee, and junior NickJackson.
