Services for Tammie Lavette Gayten, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m.Saturday, Jan. 14 at St. James M.B. Church with burial in HillcrestCemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Williams Mortuary.

Ms. Gayten, 40, died Jan. 8, 2006, at Natchez Regional MedicalCenter from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She wasborn on March 1, 1965, to Johnny Wilcher and Velma Gayten.

She was employed for six years as a trainer at Delphi-PackardElectric Systems. She was a member of St. James M.B. Church.

Ms. Gayten was a 1983 graduate of Brookhaven High School and a1985 graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Community College. She attendedLouisiana State University. She was a champion basketball playerand was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Co-Lin.

Preceding her in death were her sisters, Karen Ann Gayten, GailGayten Williams and Terry Crockett; her maternal grandmother, AnnaHaney; and her paternal grandfather, Robert Wilcher Sr.

Survivors are her daughters, Ayana Tillman and Oceania Simmons,both of Brookhaven; her fiance of 19 years, Wayne Randolph Simmons,of Brookhaven; her mother, Velma Gayten, of Brookhaven; her father,Johnny Wilcher and his wife, Cora Wilcher, of Brookhaven; herstepfather, Robert “Bob” Wilbert, of Brookhaven; her sisters,Annalean Gayten Owens, Rhonda Smith and her husband, Donald Smith,Stephanie Gayten, Carla Gayten, Theresa Wilcher, Beverly Wilcher,Lavette Wilcher, Sonjia Smith and her husband, Robert Smith, DebbieHoward and her husband, Louis Howard and Denise Crockett, all ofBrookhaven; her brothers, Willie Gayten, Kimberly Gayten, DevinGayten and his wife, Monzola Gayten, and Jackie McGee, all ofBrookhaven, Christopher Wilbert and his wife, Shalonda Wilbert, ofMcComb, and Donald Wilbert and his wife, Tasha Wilbert, of Dallas,Texas; and one granddaughter, Tremyriah Keyes; and many aunts,uncles, cousins and other relatives.
