CLINTON — Brookhaven Academy’s Lady Cougars traveled to A.E.Wood Coliseum on Thursday night, hoping for a successful night asthey faced Benton Academy in the Choctaw Classic. Led by a balancedteam effort and a strong first half, Brookhaven blasted Benton59-34 to improve to 18-8 on the season

Sophomore Kelli Snider scored 10 points, had 4 assists, 4 stealsand pulled down 3 rebounds as Brookhaven fell behind 4-0 early butcaught fire and never looked back. Casey Smith followed with 9points and Drew Holland Tigner and Betsy Lynch added 8 points apiece in support.

“I was proud of the girls for the way the played in thisenvironment.” said Brookhaven coach Barry Gray. “They had neverplayed up here in a game like this so it was good to get thatexperience. The only downside was that we got out rebounded. That’sstill something we need to work on.”

Tigner and Maddie Allen led Brookhaven on the defensive side,each pulling down four rebounds. Tigner had 5 steals.

Whitney Melton led Benton with 12 points. Brittany Davisfollowed with 7 points.
