Natchez man kiilled in accident

A second fatal crash in less than two months occurred Friday atthe intersection of Highway 84 and Mississippi Highway 33 at Roxiein Franklin County, said a Mississippi Highway Patrol official.

Gene C. Robinson, 61, of Oak Street in Natchez, was pronounceddead at the scene late Friday afternoon, said Staff Sergeant RodCrawford, public affairs spokesman for the Mississippi HighwayPatrol Troop M. The MHP received the call around 4:08 p.m.

Robinson was traveling northbound in a 1990 Kenworth dump truckon Mississippi Highway 33 when he pulled out in front of a 1996 Mactruck driven by Pedro M. Sanchez, 29, of Yuma, Ariz., Crawfordsaid. Sanchez was traveling westbound on Highway 84 and pulling aloaded log trailer when Robinson’s vehicle pulled into hispath.

Both vehicles caught fire in the collision, Crawford said.Sanchez was able to exit his vehicle, but Robinson did not.

“Robinson burned in the crash and was pronounced dead at thescene by the Franklin County Medical Examiner Percy Peeler,”Crawford said.

Robinson’s body was taken to Mississippi Mortuary in Jackson byhearse.

Sanchez sustained moderate injuries and was taken by ambulanceto the Franklin County Hospital, Crawford said. Officials with theFranklin County Hosptial said Sanchez was not a patient at thehospital Saturday afternoon and must have already beenreleased.

The first fatality occurred Dec. 19 when the vehicle Terry Cox,30, of Centreville, was riding in collided with a commercialPeterbilt truck at the same intersection.
